Countries that need a visa for Ireland
You need an Irish visa if you plan to travel to Ireland using a passport or travel document issued by a country listed below. This list may change from time to time.
A visa allows you to travel to Ireland. It does not guarantee that you will be allowed into the country.

You must apply for a transit visa if you hold a passport or travel document issued by a country listed below and you plan to travel through an Irish airport on your way to another destination.
Ethiopia (see below for exemption for travel to USA and Canada)
Ethiopia: You do not need an Irish transit visa if you hold a passport or travel document issued by Ethiopia and you hold a current and valid entry visa for the USA or Canada and you intend to transit via Ireland on your way to the United States or Canada.
Changes to countries that need a visa
The Minister for Justice and Equality may change the status of a country as regards visa requirements for travel to Ireland.
Changes are made via Statutory Instrument and published in the official state journal Iris Oifigiúil.
Recent changes
- 9 June 2017: Nationals of Georgia and Ukraine must apply for a transit visa to travel via Ireland
- 9 May 2015: Nationals of Ethiopia do not need a transit visa for travel via Ireland to the United States or Canada under certain circumstances
- 30 November 2014: Nationals of Malawi must apply for a visa before travelling to Ireland
- 24 June 2014: Nationals of Venezuela must apply for a visa before travelling to Ireland
