Disability Policy Division
Disability Policy Division is responsible for the coordination of Government Disability Policy. The main functions of the Division are:
- Coordination of the National Disability Strategy;
- Coordination of the implementation of The Disability Act. A review of the operation of the Disability Act has now been completed (PDF - 133KB). A Code of Practice on Accessibility of Public Services and Information provided by Public Bodies has been completed. A Code of Practice on Access to Heritage Sites has been completed;
- Engagement with the EU Commission and Council of Europe on development of disability policy and procedures;
- Coordination of the ratification of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD);
- Provision of grant aid and corporate governance to the National Disability Authority (NDA);
- Promotion of Disability awareness campaigns.
Public Services including funding in relation to disability have been mainstreamed; therefore, queries in relation to a particular public service should be directed to the Department/Agency that has general responsibility for that service.
