The Office for Internet Safety is an executive office of the Department of Justice and Equality. It was set up in 2008 to deal with internet safety particularly as it relates to children.
The role of the Office for Internet safety
The Office for Internet Safety has primary responsibility for the development and promotion of strategic actions to promote the highest possible levels of internet safety, particularly in relation to combating child pornography.
The Office for Internet Safety plays a key role in ensuring a cohesive approach is being taken across Government Departments, State Agencies and other key stakeholders in addressing illegal content on the internet.
The Office for Internet Safety has a dedicated website containing information and links on internet safety.
Be Safe Online
Be Safe Online is the Government’s campaign to highlight ways to help you stay safe online.
This webpage provides access to a wide range of Online Safety resources, to support online safety for all.
While Government has an important role, it alone cannot effectively address Online Safety issues.
Industry, educators, parents, and children and young people must all play their part.
